Property Photo Size, Format, Cover Photo, and Gallery Order Explained
When a hotel manager exports the same square image for the cover, bedroom gallery, bathroom proof, and amenity detail, some photos may upload but still fail the guest. The better workflow chooses size, format, crop, and order by photo role.

Start with the platform role, not only the pixel count
Airbnb guidance emphasizes clear, high-quality photos, a photo tour, room coverage, and first photos that appear prominently. Booking.com guidance focuses on property photos, main photo choices, room or unit photos, and ordering tools such as smart ordering where available. Those concepts point to the same practical rule: the cover/main image, bedroom image, bathroom image, and room-type gallery image do not all need the same crop.
Airbnb recommends at least 1024 x 683 pixels for home listing photos. Treat that as a floor, not as a reason to shrink every good source photo immediately. If a dashboard, app, property type, or local setting shows a different current instruction, follow the live upload screen.
Choose the cover/main photo for fast guest understanding
The cover/main photo should communicate the strongest honest reason to book.
